Note: For the shipment of the air freight the cost per pound is the greater between physical weight and volume. If you wish to know how to determine the volume weight we have a conversion table that we can show you later on.

Additional fees for Air Freight:

Volume Weight: The following are a couple of guidelines for large packages and small packages like toys, televisions, etc. The package should be weighed and the physical weight should be noted, take down the three measurements (width, length, height) and apply the following formula: Volume weight = width x length  alto/166.

Volume = 24 x 24 x 24 = 13824/166
Volume weight = 83.2 Lbs.
Physical weight = 60 Lbs.
Difference in weight: 83.2 – 60 = 23.2 Lbs.

The taxes (10 % tax or tariff and 16% IVA) is paid in accordance with the total value of the invoice of the purchase, which is pre-calculated (CIF value). The following is an example of how the taxes are calculated using this scenario:

If we have a package that weighs 10 pounds, with an estimated value of $100.00, the cost for insurance is $2.00 and $1.00 per pound for the freight, the total amount is calculated in this manner:

The taxes to be paid are:
Tax or tariff: $11.20
I.V.A.: $19.71

Regulation on how to send Nationalized Mail:

Pursuant to Article 19 Act19 of 1978 regulations for imports and express mail are:

*If the cargo has volume, there will be additional charge for the difference of $0.70 for each pound.*

- The boxes can not weigh more than 110 lbs.
- Declare the entire contents of the shipment for customs purposes.
- The contents of the shipment must be for personal use only.
- For delivery each package should include a purchase invoice or declaration of value.
- Package contents or its load to avoid damage to sensitive items.

Regulations for Express Mail:

Pursuant to Article 19 Act19 of 1978 the following can not be accepted:

• The package can not weigh more than 110 pounds

• The dimensions of the boxes should not exceed in total of 60 inches.
• The contents of the shipment should be articles for the household items, personal items, samples and anything else that is not regulated which does not exceed $2000.00 in value.
• If the contents are samples, there should contain no more than 6 units of the same reference.  
• Opium , morphine, cocaine, psychotropic drugs controlled or not by the Ministry of Health
• Medicines to be covered by health registration and /or cleared prior Invima.
• Food , plants , animals, dead or alive, homeopathic substances or mixtures.
• Weapons, ammunition , accessories of war, garments of exclusive use by the military, explosives, flammable, toxic, corrosive or hazardous material.
• Chemical precursors in the development of drugs , radioactive material.
• Obscene or immoral objects, toys that depict war.
• Coins, bank notes, paper money or any other securities to bearer, platinum, gold or silver, manufactured or not. Items pertaining to jewelry or gems.
• Each package is covered with $100 insurance already included. If you wish to increase the coverage to the maximum amount of $1000 there will be an additional charge of 6 %.
